2021.12.09 11:01 autotldr First woman president in Honduras faces tough fight on abortion
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 77%. (I'm a bot)
TEGUCIGALPA - Xiomara Castro has made history as the first woman to be elected president of Honduras - now she faces another battle to ease the country's strict ban on abortion.
Honduras is one of six countries in Latin America and the Caribbean that bans abortion under all circumstances, and it is the only country in the region to ban emergency contraception, also known as the morning-after pill.
In 2017, more than 8,700 women were hospitalized in Honduras because of abortion complications, according to the latest data available from the public health ministry.
Argentina became the first big Latin American country to legalize abortion last year, while Mexico's top court ruled to decriminalize abortion in September in another watershed moment.
About 60% of Hondurans believe abortion should be legalized in the case of risk to the mother's life and deformities of the fetus, and about 46% in cases of rape and incest, according to a 2018 survey by Honduran opinion polling firm Le Vote. But nine in 10 people oppose offering abortion on demand, and nearly half said all Honduran women who managed to end a pregnancy despite the current ban should be jailed.
Just the possibility of a president presenting legislation to protect women's rights and abortion access represents a major political shift for Honduras, women's rights advocates said.

2021.12.09 11:01 Supernatural_Cheese I just won two tickets to the Hamilton musical in London, but I'm unable to attend as I'm living in Sweden. If someone would like to have the tickets I would be happy to help two people!
I just won the lottery for Hamilton on TodayTix and got two tickets for £10 each, but just as I got happy that I won, I realized that I would not be able to attend the show as I am working that day (and partly due to the travelling chaos caused by Covid).
Details of the show:
16 December, 2:30 PM GMT
150 Victoria Street, London, SW1E 5EA
Tickets are for Stalls Row A, Seat 18-19
So if anyone is interested or would like to attend the show, I would be happy to give the tickets away as sort of an early Christmas gift! Just promise me that you will not resell them haha, I want these tickets to go to someone actually going and not trying to make a profit :)

2021.12.09 11:01 equinox_games7 How am i supposed to enjoy rivals when my rival's time is either multiple hours long, or blatantly cheated?
I want to race against real, similarly skilled players to me. Not a time 6 hours long (why do these even exist) or a lap time on the Goliath of 0.000001 picoseconds. How do I find reasonable, realistic lap times. It seems impossible

2021.12.09 11:01 Hikarix33 I‘ve been having my period/spotting for 48 days
I‘m sick of it, I got desogestel recently as pain management since I‘ve been struggeling with pelvic/period pain daily for a year, always had heavy bleedings and stuff, they did a bunch of tests and everything came back normal. :> No endo, no adeno, no nothing. Doctors told me to suck it up and eat painkillers. Anyways like I said, I got said pill now which and it has managed to reduce the pain a bit (thank god) but now I‘ve been having my period/constant spotting for 48 days and it hasn‘t stopped hahahaha. I‘m gonna see another gyn in a week as I‘m searching for a new one atm.
Has anyone else experienced this?

2021.12.09 11:01 Mental-Translator601 What is meant by Prayer of the Heart?
What exactly is meant by such phrases like ‘descend into the heart’ and ‘stand before God with the mind in the heart’? Is this to be understood literally or metaphorically?
I have heard that Intelligence has its seat in the Head, whereas the Spirit has its seat in the Heart. How does this make sense, since the soul is a simple substance, with no extension, and therefore is wholly present in each part of the body?

2021.12.09 11:01 aliasone San Francisco begins a quiet and roundabout rollback of its parklets, originally put in to mitigate damage from Covid policy; meanwhile, restrictions continue in force [mini-essay]
Okay, so first off, a little inside baseball background context about the city of San Francisco. One of the core competencies of our last ten years worth of politicians has been the capacity to broadcast projects that seem virtuous on the surface so that they make national news and make their purveyors look good, while simultaneously costing nothing because they end up being empty gestures, or have downsides that aren't borne by the sponsoring politician. This process has been tripped up somewhat recently as SF's been put in the spotlight around its CVS closures, Louis Vuitton robbery, school board recall, plywood-covered storefronts, etc., but it's been an effective model for years, and SF polis are always on the look out for new PR opportunities.
Covid measures are a great example — London Breed gained national acclaim from a lockdown-loving domestic press as she shut the city down early and hard. As this lockdown progresses from "two weeks" to what's now two years, the damage caused by this decision is literally immeasurable with all things considered — hundreds of businesses gone, a spike in crime that's off the charts, permanent evacuation of millions of square feet of office space — and will likely cause a deficit in the billions on the next municipal budget (it was "only" measured in 100s of millions on the last one, thank you dear Uncle Brandon for the bail out), but Breed won't suffer any consequences from this because a friendly press will write it off as a Covid problem rather than a policy one.
Covid's a big one, but it happens at all levels of our local government at all times. Another concrete example that came up recently is the housing record of Dean Preston, one of the city's district supervisors, and very loud fauxgressive pundit on Twitter. Preston specializes in spearheading initiatives that garner good headlines like Prop I which adds tax to theoretically pay for affordable housing, but then turns around and blocks individual housing projects at all levels . The net effect: mainstream media attention at how progressive he is, but without having to deal with any filthy newcomers in his neighborhood, or any potential price hits to his million+ dollar properties.
Covid (or more specifically, Covid policies) has been almost universally bad to San Francisco, but there have been some rare examples of rays of light. Foremost amongst those is the city's parklet system. For those not familiar — because indoor dining was deemed so irredeemably dangerous and there's very few businesses in SF that have space for outdoor patios, the city allowed restaurants to build outdoor space on the street where they could seat customers outside, allowing them to continue business at some capacity as local politicians made being inside of a building illegal. It's a vanishingly rare Covid measure that's actually worked out pretty well, with many streets made much more lively with cultural space that was previously just used for free parking.
As per usual, Breed and SF politicians didn't create the parklet system out of good will or because they wanted to help struggling businesses — they did it in the hopes that it'd be picked up by The New York Times and written up to make them look good. It worked, and once again garnered them national media attention for how progressive and outside-the-box thinkers they were.
So, success all around right? Not quite. While the parklets got the intended press and kept the plebs happy, politicians weren't particularly enthused about them. For one, they'd be caught dead eating outside where it's kind of cold with a bunch of disgusting plebs, but also, there's a very strong lobby for free parking in San Francisco, and anything, no matter how valuable, that takes up parking space isn't popular amongst a vocal subset of voters. This subset includes the politicians themselves, who shudder at the thought of using something so base as public transportation with a bunch of filthy commoners. A few years back when they challenged themselves to ride Muni to understand the experience of an every day San Franciscan, London Breed managed to log a dismal three rides during a 22-day period . And that was during a competition — sufficed to say that her normal number is zero rides per year and that she would vastly prefer to have her free parking back.
This left them with a major dilemma. Rolling out parklets made them popular and got them write ups in press releases around the world, but now that they're out there, but rolling them back had the potential risk of causing an equal amount of bad press as a feature almost universally loved by the community is removed with extreme prejudice.
But Breed and San Francisco leadership are smooth political operators, and they found a solution. Instead of straight out rolling back parklets, Breed issued a 60-page manual containing a myriad of new regulatory requirements and red tape that need to be applied for one to stay valid, with the threat of heavy fines in case it isn't -- 14 days to get compliant, $100 on day 15, $200 on day 16, $500 on day 17, and $500 every single day after that — and all in addition to thousands of dollars in normal annual fees. The new regulations aren't trivial either — estimates are that 90% of the city's parklets aren't compliant with the new code and will need to be rebuilt or removed .
As usual, if you read the actual doc , it's not about removing parklets, it's about making sure that parklets provide sufficient "equity", "safety", and "inclusion" (I wish I was making this up, someone should make a bingo card) — language specifically designed to make this giant wad of red tape untouchable by the BLM-lovin' orange-man-bad we-call-them-latinx national press. The intended final result is that Breed gets to have her cake and eat it too — favorable headlines putting parklets in, and not a word of bad press as they're quietly ripped back out.
The informal roll back of parklets is also part of a broader theme. This sort of measure was originally introduced as an allowance to local business and to local people to act as a counterbalancing element to the extreme restrictions that local government's put in place. But as we roll forward into the future there's a common pattern showing up again and again — these allowances are being rolled back one by one, but the restrictions they were meant to counteract are not — although Slow Streets and parklets may be gone, vaccine mandates and masks stay in place.
Anyway, tl;dr London Breed is one of the worst excuses for a human being ever born in 300k+ years of homo sapien history. SF politicians aren't just bad with Covid, they're bad with everything. This city is hot fucking garbage.

2021.12.09 11:01 OldMeThrowaway_15 My (20f) boyfriend (22m) keeps saying he misses the old me, and it’s starting to hurt.
Obligatory “this a throwaway cause they’re on Reddit as well”.
My boyfriend and I have been together for a little over a year. When we first met I was fresh out of therapy, after a couple of abusive relationships, and felt very confident and settled in myself. I feel like the vacuum of lockdown created an environment where I could focus solely on my therapy and I had no real life situations to apply it to, so I was in a bit of a bubble.
Now for context, I was previously diagnosed with BPD, but my current psychiatrist believes I have a combination of PTSD and ADHD (currently having a few more sessions to determine this).
So when we were first going out, we were in that lovely honeymoon stage where everything in life is happy and shiny cause you’ve just met someone new and you’re flooded with hormones. Obviously, that has to end. And what really ended it was me being triggered by going to a venue that was involved in one of my traumatic experiences in 2019. I was not expecting it, but my body and mind starting acting up big time; I was constantly throwing up, developed a really strange relationship with food and hygiene (I thought contaminated food was making me sick), was always on edge and having severe nightmares, and I disassociated all the time. This went on for about 4-5 months. Now I realise it was my body trying to protect me, and my mind reacting to being triggered, but at the time I was so unwell and off that I thought I had something serious. During this time, my boyfriends ex also accused him of cheating on me with her and it broke my heart. There were screenshots of messages and some circumstantial evidence for it actually going down. My gut feeling is that he did do it, but he denies it and shuts downs any conversation about it to this day.
Fast forward to now and I’m trying so so hard to get the help I need and apply it to everyday life and those times when everything gets too much. I’m in regular therapy and (depending on the advice of psych) trying medication soon. I try my absolute best to stay resilient. It’s up and down, but I think I’m finally getting to grips with things. But whenever me and my boyfriend have conflict he always uses the same line: “I miss the old you. You used to love yourself. Now you overthink everything and it’s getting too much for me to deal with.”
This hurts me for several reasons: 1) I feel like I’m actually a lot stronger and a more developed person than the old me; I have a stronger sense of self and boundaries, and an active social life- which I did not have when we met. 2) I do love myself. All women have days when they look in the mirror and aren’t exactly happy about what they see. But him saying that makes me question if I really do love myself, and lowers my self esteem. 3) it leaves me feeling so confused and hurt. I feel like I’m doing so well, but then the person closest to me is saying I’m not. Honestly sometimes I want to ask why he doesn’t just leave, as he makes me feel like me in my current form does not deserve his love, and that I’m too much of a handful for him to be with. It also makes me feel like I have to rush my treatment and bounce back for him.
Sure, sometimes I get upset. I can get triggered by scenes of a certain nature in TV shows. I used to drink too much and end up crying and paranoid. And sometimes I don’t like how openly flirtatious he is with other girls. He’ll buy them drinks and light their cigarettes for them in front of me; sometimes I feel invisible to him when there’s other women around. But I’ve apologised every time I get upset for these reasons. I’m actively working on building up self-esteem with my therapist, in the process of stopping drinking, and I communicate with my bf when something is bothering me. But he never does the same, just makes the “I miss the old you, you used to be so chill” statement.
I’m very confused Reddit. Is there a red flag in my or his behaviour that I’m not seeing? All I know is that it’s really straining our relationship and I don’t want to lose the man I love. But I don’t think it is fair of him to make me feel like a don’t deserve his love until I get better and act like the ‘old me’. (Also sorry for bad formatting, I’m on mobile)
Tldr; my boyfriend always brings up missing the old me and me not loving myself when we have conflict. It’s making me feel like he doesn’t want to be with me and that I have to get better for him.
